My Poker Face is Melting

Last week New York City was disgusting! Being from the hell that is Dallas during the Summer, I know about heat, but last week walking in NYC was like walking through mayonnaise. The humidity and heat made the city a death swamp, and the last thing I wanted to do was dress up as my favorite musician (not that I should ever dress as Tom Petty), but these die hard Lady Gaga fans are far more dedicated than me. I found these hard-core kids hanging outside of MSG for hours in their get-ups!

There were groups of Gaga:

The Claw!!

AND the woman herself!!!!

Fun in the Park

SummerStage is a series of free concerts that are put on every weekend throughout the summer in Central Park. We checked it out last Saturday.

There were lots of summer looks at the shows. I love wearing white so I especially loved this combo: white dress, cute straw hat with a flower, big sunglasses. So cute!
I am not sure about this subway map hat, but I give her credit for creativity....

There are tons of concerts and performances scheduled for this summer, check out the series at www.summerstage.org

Hey Party People!

Manhattan Shopping Party, the brain child of Tami Baruch, is a new in-home shopping experience!

So Tami, What is MSP?:
Manhattan Shopping Party provides a new kind of entertaining, and a service to women that they have never had in the city. MSP offers a selection of new and vintage jewelry and accessories as well as high-end contemporary women's fashions brought into a comfortable setting. The featured products vary each time, every party is different, and exciting selections are always guaranteed!

How does it work?:
You can contact me to book your party a couple of weeks in advance. I bring in a wide range of exclusive products from designer sweaters to leather jackets, vintage clutches and jewelry. Always changing so other people can use the service over and over. I also offer personal shopping services including locating a special products for you or a gift for someone else.

How much does the service cost?:
It depends on the location and the party size. The Host gets 15% off of purchases and after 3 referrals you can get a free party.

Why did you decide to start this type of company?:
I have worked in all aspects of the fashion industry for the last eight years. It was a creative way for me to work more directly with the consumer.

What is you favorite piece of clothing this summer?:
Anything white!

And can you give us a style tip?:
Focus on basics as far as clothing, and add great jewelry - big ring, chunky necklace, or fabulous bracelet - BUT, not all together!

Awesome! When is your first party?:
The launch will be mid August, and hosting will start September 2010.

For more information or to book your next shopping party, contact Tami. Check out her website at http://www.manhattanshoppingparty.com/

Running for a Cause

My fabulous friend, Sheri, is a fellow fashionista here in the city. She is gearing up to run the NYC Marathon this November. She has partnered with Team for Kids which is an organization directly affliliated with New York Road Runners . It's a great cause - helping to fight childhood obesity by getting kids running and moving with after school programs.

"My favorite running gear is: Lululemon capris that are breathable and moisture resistant, their racerback tank, a Dri fit Nike hat and Asics sneakers!" -Sheri

Lululemon is my favorite for workout clothes also! It's amazing! Great fitting pants and capri's. Shorts that are great for the hot summer. And tons of accessories that are good for yourself or gifts! http://www.lululemon.com/

The Vintage Onsie

Amanda and I saw this chick on Madison Ave this weekend. I really dug her denim romper. Anyone who knows me, knows that I am such a huge fan of what I call the "onesie" because as a lazy person I only have to worry about accessories and getting to the bathroom with plenty of time.

The thing I dug the most were the super masculine boots that she pulled off with out looking like an 1980's hiker /softball player, and the crochet vest addition definitely femme'd up the ensemble. The romper itself was vintage from a store in the West Village, but you can find S4AM's beautiful Chambray version here

Afternoon in Bryant Park

It was a sweltering day in NYC but we spotted some great summer looks in Bryant Park.

Who says you can't wear brown with black? Alexandra is a model from the Dominican. I love how she mixes up the nuetrals.

Stripes are a summer staple and we love how Daria, a student visiting from Eastern Europe, put them together with her crisp white skirt and pops of red.

No mom jeans for Rachel from Miami! She stays cool in a raceback silk jumper as she runs after 2 little ones. The snakeskin sandals make her outfit effortless and polished at the same time.

Love, Loss and What I Wore

Many of us have girlfriends, sisters, or mom coming up for a visit this summer. If you can spare the time between recovering from the crazy nights out and/or the marathon shopping trips, I highly suggest checking out the Off-Broadway play, "Love, Loss, and What I Wore."

It's an amazing collection of stories (memories) that center around clothing and accessories. It struck me how deep those memories can be for us, and how hilarious!

When I saw it, the cast included Lucy Devito, Melissa Joan Hart, Judy Gold, Shirley Knight, and Karen Quakenbush. My mom and I went a few months back. To say we laughed and cried is an understatement. The stories were personal and relevant to all women, all ages. And, I would totally go again!

The website is www.lovelossonstage.com

ps, don't bring your boyfriends or husbands...

Summer Color

It's officially the first day of summer (even though we have been feeling the heat for weeks now) It's time for Summer Nails!!

Tami loves Haute As Hello from Essie!

Genevieve is wearing Essie's Tart Deco.

I'm loving OPI's Dim Sum Plum!

Send me yours!

Met Girl

The first victim...We stopped Jillian, a student from Alabama, coming out of The Met on a Saturday afternoon. She looked totally at ease and enjoying her afternoon alone in the city, which is what caught my attention first.
From the braid to the rocker sandals, I love the look. The short shorts and loose top were perfect for the 90 degree heat and the Met button topped it off for me.
I have seen the shorts at a few different places, most recently at H&M. I think a need a pair for the beach!

The Apple Slice Style Blog

You know you've done it. You've stared someone up and down taking in their entire outfit, from earrings down to their toe nail color. Only to then realize that they are staring back at you like "What?"

I do it all the time, I take people watching to the next level. I love it. And one of the best things about living in New York City is checking out all of the street style. There are some incredible ensembles. I have been inspired by many unknowing people to step up my game the next time I get dressed.

A little about me: I was born and lived overseas in Germany for a large part of my life but call Atlanta home. I have lived in NYC almost 2 years. I work in the garment "fashion" industry on the wholesale sales side. I do not consider myself any sort of "Style Maven." But on the other hand, I do have few talents and one of them is recongnizing good style and occasionally pulling of a look or two on my own.

This blog was born out of wanting to share the sights I see around town. And any other thing that may come to mind. Occasionally, I will have my awesome friend and roommate "guest Commentate" with her one-of-a-kind perspective.

Enjoy...
